Places to Visit in Muar

Muar's famous Glutton Street or Tam Chiak (贪吃街) street popular with locals and tourists alike is located along a 100-metre stretch of Jalan Haji Abu, starting from the junction with Jalan Meriam at one end to Jalan Ali at the other end.


Location: Along Jalan Haji Abu (between junction with Jalan Meriam and Jalan Ali), Muar

Operation Hours: 10:00am to 8:00pm (stalls have different opening hours)


Labelled as Muar’s Starbucks, the bright yellow exterior and signature Elephant Bean coffee. Inside, the café has the feel of a Swiss chalet. Very unusual and unexpected in a place like Muar. The elephant coffee bean has a delicious sweet, non-acidic taste and a unique aroma, making it irreplaceable.

The best place to go is Tanjung Emas Park. A decorative sidewalk path runs along the riverbank. A 9-hole golf course is also in this park. There is a boat service that departs from the park and cruises along Sungai Muar for 45 to 60 minutes, giving visitors the chance to take in the river beauty of Muar.

The Malaysia Book of Records has recognised a painting at a four-story building close to Jalan Bulatan Bakri as the largest picture in Malaysia. It is the “The Loving Sisters” by Russian artist, Julia Volchkova. It is a piece in the "Projek Mural Bandar Diraja" series.

The landmark in Muar, Johor, is the Muar Clock Tower. It is the park's most noticeable feature for a tiny town. This clock tower reportedly cost RM1.9 million to construct and is relatively new.

About a century ago, the Sungai Gersik Hot Spring was found. Due to the high Sulphur concentration, the hot spring water, which is between 50 and 70 degrees Celsius, offers healing properties. For the comfort of its visitors, the hot spring is then transformed into a pool that resembles any other swimming pool.

The oldest mosque in Muar, built in 1887. The blueprints for the mosque were drawn by local artist Sulaiman Ilyas. Viewed from the top, the entire building is beautifully painted in white and blue. The most prominent is the minaret, and the porches and balconies decorated with Roman columns are also full of elegance and nobility.
